Dr. Michael Esterman is a research scientist at VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Boston University School of Medicine. He received his degree in Psychology at UC Berkeley and completed post-doctoral work at Johns Hopkins University conducting clinical and basic cognitive neuroscience research using fMRI, EEG, and TMS. Dr. Esterman is a co-founder of the Boston Attention and Learning Lab and the Associate Director of Functional Imaging at the VA Boston Neuroimaging Center for Veterans (NeRVe). Mike’s current interests include investigating the neural basis of attentional control and distractibility, in both healthy young and older adults, as well as in neurological and psychiatric patient populations. His research program uses a variety of cognitive neuroscience techniques, including psychophysics, fMRI, and non-invasive brain stimulation in order to understand and enhance attention.
