Characterization of cerebrovascular responses to hyperoxia and hypercapnia using MRI in rat

Understanding cerebrovascular responses to hyperoxia and hypercapnia is important for investigating exogenous regulation of cerebral hemodynamics. We characterized gas-induced vascular changes in the brains of anesthetized healthy rats using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) while the rats inhaled 100% O(2) (hyperoxia) and 5% CO(2) (hypercapnia).

Accuracy of MRI volume measurements of breast lesions: comparison between automated, semiautomated and manual assessment

The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of a dedicated software tool for automated and semiautomated volume measurement in contrast-enhanced (CE) magnetic resonance mammography (MRM). Ninety-six breast lesions with histopathological workup (27 benign, 69 malignant) were re-evaluated by different volume measurement techniques.

Deregulation of tumor angiogenesis and blockade of tumor growth in PPARbeta-deficient mice

The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-beta (PPARbeta) has been implicated in tumorigenesis, but its precise role remains unclear. Here, we show that the growth of syngeneic Pparb wild-type tumors is impaired in Pparb(-/-) mice, concomitant with a diminished blood flow and an abundance of hyperplastic microvascular structures. Matrigel plugs containing pro-angiogenic growth factors harbor increased numbers of morphologically immature, proliferating endothelial cells in Pparb(-/-) mice, and retroviral transduction of Pparb triggers microvessel maturation.

[MR-Imaging of lower leg muscle perfusion]

PURPOSE: This article describes the potential of dynamic contrast- enhanced magnetic resonance tomography (DCE-MRT) for the visualization and quantification of blood flow of lower leg muscles at rest and after individually adjusted muscular exercise.

[Lys40(Ahx-DTPA-111In)NH2]exendin-4, a very promising ligand for glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor targeting

UNLABELLED: High levels of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor expression in human insulinomas and gastrinomas provide an attractive target for imaging, therapy, and intraoperative tumor localization, using receptor-avid radioligands. The goal of this study was to establish a tumor model for GLP-1 receptor targeting and to use a newly designed exendin-4-DTPA (DTPA is diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) conjugate for GLP-1 receptor targeting.

A new technique for in vivo imaging of specific GLP-1 binding sites: first results in small rodents

EXPERIMENTAL OBJECTIVES: In vivo imaging of GLP-1 receptor-positive tissues may allow examination of physiologic and pathophysiologic processes. Based on the GLP-1 analog Exendin 4, we have developed a radiolabeled compound specifically targeting the GLP-1 receptor (DTPA-Lys40-Exendin 4). This work aims to detect GLP-1 receptor-positive tissues by biodistribution studies and in vivo small animal imaging studies.

DTI reveals hypothalamic and brainstem white matter lesions in patients with idiopathic narcolepsy

BACKGROUND: Symptomatic narcolepsy is often related to hypothalamic, pontine, or mesencephalic lesions. Despite evidence of disturbances of the hypothalamic hypocretin system in patients with idiopathic narcolepsy, neuroimaging in patients with idiopathic narcolepsy revealed conflicting results and there is limited data on possible structural brain changes that might be associated with this disorder.

Efficacy of 99mTc pertechnetate and 131I radioisotope therapy in sodium/iodide symporter (NIS)-expressing neuroendocrine tumors in vivo

PURPOSE: There is growing interest in the human sodium/iodide symporter (NIS) gene both as a molecular imaging reporter gene and as a therapeutic gene. Here, we show the feasibility of radioisotope therapy of neuroendocrine tumors. As a separate application of NIS gene transfer, we image NIS-expressing tumors with pinhole SPECT in living subjects.

Irradiation-dependent effects on tumor perfusion and endogenous and exogenous hypoxia markers in an A549 xenograft model

PURPOSE: Hypoxia is a major determinant of tumor radiosensitivity, and microenvironmental changes in response to ionizing radiation (IR) are often heterogenous. We analyzed IR-dependent changes in hypoxia and perfusion in A549 human lung adenocarcinoma xenografts.
